York is the most important historic city in the north of England and until the 19th century was second in size and importance only to London. It is filled with quaint narrow streets, caf's and specialist shops and is the perfect destination for a weekend break. Sightseeing opportunities include; the Jorvik Viking Centre, York Castle Museum, The National Railway Museum, Clifford's Tower (York's Medieval Castle). Retail therapy can be found at The Coppergate Centre, or along The Shambles.
