Chic and Sleek

The gateway to the north, Manchester is one of the capitals of cool in England. The city oozes a gritty charm, and is giving London a good run for its money as the best city in the land.

Innovation and change

Manchester has been the centre of a number of England’s recent cultural movements. The early acid house movement in England was very strong in the city, which can be seen in the vibrant nightlife that Manchester still boasts, and a number of great bands such as Oasis and the Stone Roses have also emerged from the city.

There is also some great sightseeing, including the Manchester Art Gallery and the Cathedral, and there is some imaginative modern architecture in the recently re-developed centre of the city. If you want an alternative to the bustling metropolis of London then Manchester is it.
